Nuclear Waste Dust Bin: Scientists have come very close to creating the world's first such amazing dustbin, where hazardous nuclear waste will be dumped and then it will be completely sealed for the next one lakh years. During this prolonged period, the radioactive material will be depleted and will be reduced to almost the same state as natural uranium found underground.
This unique nuclear dustbin has been prepared in the dense forests of Yurajauki in southwestern Finland, at a depth of 433 meters from the ground. Here, huge tunnels have been built inside the billions of years old rocks. Preparations are underway to permanently bury the hazardous radioactive waste that has accumulated over the past decades due to nuclear power generation in this dustbin.
