More than Rs 31 lakh worth of peanuts were stolen in Rajkot's Jetpur, know what the Agriculture Minister said?

Rajkot district was rocked by the theft of groundnut purchased from NAFED at support price.   The Giriraj warehouse was rented by the Central Warehousing Corporation near Jetalsar village in Jetpur taluka. In which 57 thousand 600 times the quantity of peanuts purchased by NAFED was kept. Between December 5, 2024, and December 16, 2024, 1,212 times the quality of peanuts in the Giriraj warehouse was stolen. There was a stir after the theft of peanuts worth Rs 31 lakh 64 thousand 956. The contract for the maintenance of this warehouse was handed over to an agency named Shriram Enterprise of Ahmedabad

Jetpur, Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel said that the government has completed the purchase of groundnut well at the support price. Our department has nothing to do with the theft. After the completion of the purchase, the responsibility of the agency and NAFED remains. This is the matter between the purchasing agency and NAFED

After physical verification in December 2024, verification was carried out again in June. Meanwhile, on June 26, 2025, Amit Kumar Gilla was transferred and replaced by Sandeep Kumar Sripurnaram Kadwasara. While handing over the charge, both the officers conducted physical verification and found that 1 thousand 212 sacks were stolen. The police have now launched an investigation based on the complaint. However, the biggest question is whether the peanuts have actually been stolen or there has been a scam.   Why were there no CCTV cameras in the godown? If there was a lack of CCTV cameras then why was the warehouse rented out? The question is also why the peanuts were stolen despite being a security guard. It is worth noting that in the past too, there have been allegations of playing in the purchase of support prices

The state has initiated a high-level probe to check hoarding and black marketing of urea fertilizers in the peak kharif season. At that time, four more fertilizer dealers were immediately suspended from the process of buying and selling.
