Vadodara: Consumers have to wait for 2 to 3 months to get a new solar connection or panel due to the government's new policy.

On the one hand, the Gujarat government and the central government claim to generate maximum green energy by promoting solar energy and rooftop schemes, but on the other hand, the sector is facing a live crisis due to administrative policies. A new policy decision that came into effect from June 1 has created a huge uproar in the solar installation market across Gujarat, including Vadodara.

What is the new rule and why is there a shortage?

Addressing a press conference in Vadodara, Dhanesh Patel, president of the Renewable Power Association of Gujarat, said that from June 1, the government has strictly enforced the rule of 'Made in India' products for solar panels. Under this rule, it is now legally mandatory to use Indian-made solar cells not only in residential but also in solar projects for large commercial and mall-factories. The production of solar cells in India is currently far below the domestic requirement of the country, leading to severe artificial and natural shortage of raw materials and solar panels in the market.

Financial burden on consumers and bullying of companies

As soon as the rules came into effect, the big Indian solar panel manufacturing companies formed a cartel (syndicate) and increased the price of solar panels by up to 25 per cent overnight. The solar project, which used to be completed in the normal budget, has now cost thousands of rupees. In addition, consumers have to wait for 2 to 3 months on the pretext of non-availability of goods, due to which many subsidy projects have been stuck live due to deadlines. The association has issued a stern warning that if the government does not immediately bring legal control to the arbitrary looting of these manufacturing companies, thousands of small traders and MSME enterprises involved in solar business in Gujarat will be on the verge of shutting down live in the coming days.
