US President Donald Trump has announced a 2-week halt to attacks on Iran. He said on the social media platform 'Truth' that he had agreed to suspend bombing and attacks for two weeks on the condition that Iran immediately open the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said he made the decision after appeals from Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir. "We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran. Consensus has been reached on all contentious issues between the two countries. The next two weeks will be necessary for the finalization and implementation of the agreement. Iran has also confirmed a ceasefire. Iran's Supreme National Security Council said the next round of talks will be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. Iran announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks and asked its citizens to maintain national unity and celebrate victory with full vigour. Pakistan's Prime Minister posted on X that he had requested Trump to extend the deadline given to Iran by two weeks. Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has appealed to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks to see it as a sign of goodwill. Earlier on Tuesday, the United Nations failed to pass a resolution to open the Strait of Hormuz amid the Iran crisis, threatening to "destroy Iranian civilization". Russia and China vetoed the proposal. According to media reports, the proposal did not mention any military action. The proposal was brought from Bahrain. According to a report by Al Jazeera, the proposal was changed about 6 times in the last two weeks, as many countries did not agree with some parts of it. On the other hand, US President Donald Trump said that Iranian civilization could end. "Tonight we will witness the most important moment in the long and complex history of the world," Trump said. The Iranian Embassy in South Africa responded to Trump's threat. "The United States and its allies will receive an answer from Iran's ancient civilization that they will never forget," he said.
