Is the desi ghee in the market genuine or fake? Do a purity test in minutes with these 3 simple traditional methods

desi ghee purity test: Sale of spurious items is in full swing in the national capital ahead of the festive season. The administration has taken a major crackdown on adulterators, in which 948 litres of spurious desi ghee has been seized.

During this festive season, when the demand for sweets and dishes increases, the black trade of highly harmful spurious ghee in the name of genuine ghee becomes rampant. Packing and wrappers of reputed companies are used to dupe consumers.

This adulterated ghee, which appears branded in the market, can pose a serious threat to our health. Hence, there is naturally a big concern among the consumers.

In such a situation, it has become very important to identify the purity of the desi ghee that we buy from the market. You don't need to go to a lab.

You can determine within minutes whether ghee is genuine or adulterated with harmful chemicals and fats using some of the simplest and traditional methods available in your kitchen

The simplest way to check by dissolving ghee in the palm

The first and easiest way to test pure ghee brought into the house is to test it by placing it in your palm. For this, just put half a teaspoon of ghee in your palm and wait for a few seconds.

According to science, the melting point of pure ghee is very low. If the ghee you have brought is really genuine, then it will start melting immediately as soon as you get the natural heat of your body and palms. It will melt and take on a light yellow or translucent colour that can be seen through.

In stark contrast, if ghee is fake or mixed with dalda, palm oil or other inexpensive vegetable fats, it will not melt in your palm quickly. It will remain crunchy and will take a lot longer to melt.

Method of checking the colour and aroma of ghee in a hot vessel

Another method to check the authenticity of desi ghee is also very popular. Place a small pot or pan on your gas or stove and heat it well.

When the vessel is neatly heated, add 1 tablespoon of ghee to it. The pure and genuine ghee will completely dissolve in seconds as soon as it comes in contact with the hot vessel and its colour will instantly turn dark brown.

At the same time, the surroundings will spread a very pleasant and natural aroma of pure ghee. But if there is any kind of adulteration in ghee, it will take a long time to dissolve even if it is put in a hot vessel><

adulterated fake ghee will have a light yellow or white colour instead of blue. The biggest thing is that when fake ghee is burnt, it will not have any natural and pleasant aroma like desi ghee.

iodine and chemical testing accurate probe

Often, profiteers mix boiled potatoes or starch in ghee to gain weight. Iodine test is considered to be the most accurate and effective way to catch this type of theft.

For this, take some ghee in a small bowl and dissolve it well. Then add 2 to 3 drops of iodine solution to it. If the colour of the ghee turns dark blue as soon as these drops fall, then it means that a large amount of starch or mashed potatoes have been added to it.

Apart from this, there is also a special chemical test to detect adulteration of dalda or vegetable oil. Take some dissolved ghee in a glass container, add 1 tablespoon of hydrochloric acid and 1 pinch of sugar. Close the lid of the container properly and shake it vigorously.

If the colour of the mixture turns red after a while, it is a clear indication that the ghee you are consuming has been mixed with dangerous dalda or cheap vegetable oil.
