Instagram Reels: The habit of watching videos in India is no longer limited to big cities. According to a new survey, people in small towns and rural areas are also watching video content in large numbers. Instagram Reels, in particular, is no longer just a means of entertainment, but it is also becoming an important medium for discovering new products, connecting with creators, and making purchase decisions.

The video viewing gap between the city and the village is decreasing

Interestingly, the habit of watching videos has now become almost uniform between cities and villages. While 98 per cent of people in urban areas watch videos daily, in rural areas this figure has reached 94 per cent.

Reels Massive Craze Among Gen Z and Women

The study showed that Reels are most popular among the younger generation i.e. Gen Z. About 89 percent of Gen Z users watch Reels every day. At the same time, this figure was recorded in 85 percent among women and 88 percent in the premium consumer category (NCCS A). Meta says Reels has now become the premier platform for discovering content, understanding new trends, and engaging with favorite creators.

Companies believe that it's on Reels that people get information about new products, build trust in the brand and ultimately influence the purchase decision

Reels of certain categories are the most popular among the Indian audience. These include

  • beauty and makeup
  • fashion
  • lifestyle
  • fitness
  • comedy
  • sports

Reels than other short video platforms, increasing both their reach and impact.

Directly impacting purchasing decisions

The survey revealed that Reels has now become an important part of consumers' shopping journey. According to the report, the platform helps 81 percent of people find new products while 66 percent of users are influenced by Reels to consider buying a product.
