Google offers its employees, quit the job with an exit package
Google Voluntary Exit Package: Google is planning to give an exit package to some of its employees. This is being called the "Severance Package". This is being done to help the company reduce its costs and invest more in artificial intelligence. This program is now available to employees in five countries.
This does not mean that Google is firing employees and compensating them. Google is telling its employees that if they voluntarily quit their jobs, the company will pay them in return. This means that employees will leave their jobs, but Google will give a financial package in return. This is called the Google Voluntary Exit Package.
5 countries available
According to a Reuters report, Google has launched the program in Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland. Google has not yet revealed how many employees have accepted the offer. A company spokesperson confirmed this to Reuters. The program was initially introduced to a select group of teams in early 2025, before expanding to other countries in June
However, these offers are not available in all Google Business divisions. The company's AI research divisions, DeepMind and Google Cloud, are said to have been excluded from the program, as were previous voluntary exit programs. Google is feeling the need for more recruitment in both units as it works to strengthen its AI and cloud businesses.
This is the reason why the company is planning to reduce its workforce in some areas or streamline their work profile. However, investments in teams like AI, considered important for future plans, will continue. Google's parent company, Alphabet, is increasing its spending on AI. This has increased the pressure on the company to manage its investment plans and expenses effectively.
The impact is visible in Switzerland
The impact of this program is already being seen in Switzerland. According to people familiar with the matter, Google employees there received the offer in June. Those who accepted started leaving the company in August. Google has about 5,000 employees in Switzerland and has a large engineering center in Zurich. The exit package offered one month's salary for each year's work, but this came with a condition: the maximum payment was up to 12 months' salary. It is reported that at least four people from a team of around 50 employees have accepted the offer
Microsoft also started offering packages. Recently, Microsoft also offered "voluntary purchases." Approximately 60,000 employees in the US, Canada, India, and the UK are eligible for this offer. This offer is for eligible employees of 70 or lower levels. This represents approximately 27 percent of Microsoft's total 223,000 employees. Those who accept this offer will leave the company at the end of December.
