The two decades old drainage line of Bhuj has been repeatedly broken due to a technical glitch which has led to drainage problems at several places. In order to prevent such a mistake from happening again, the municipality has started the work of laying a new advanced drainage line at an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore. Under this project, the main line of about 1885 running metres length and 700 mm diameter is being laid from Commerce College Three Road to Trimandir Tribheta. At present, work has started near the Trimandir. The 'push through' system will be used for the first time. Municipal engineer Vivek Joshi said that the work is targeted to be completed before the monsoon so that there is no problem of waterlogging during the rainy season. The highlight of the project is that out of the total line, a pipeline of about 520 meters in length will be passed through a 700 mm pipe through a 'push through' system inside a larger pipe of 1200 mm diameter. This modern technology is being used for the first time in the city. This method has been adopted to prevent the pipe from breaking due to the pressure coming from above at a depth of 7 meters. The drainage line will be laid at a depth of 4 meters to 8 meters depending upon the height of the land in different areas. Ganeshnagar is at a higher altitude while Raghuvanshinagar falls in a low-lying area so there will be a change in depth to maintain the bottom level of the chamber. The gradient of the entire line will be an average of 1.2 meters from end to end. The push through method will be adopted as the road is chained in the Ganeshnagar area. In this, about 5 meters of pits will be dug at a distance of 30-30 meters and the pipe will be passed through the inside. There will be no need to make beds where there is rocky ground (hard morum), while in other places bedding will be prepared as per requirement. With the commissioning of this new drainage line, the areas from Mangalam to Umednagar will get relief from the problem of drainage water overflowing during rains.
