Ranveer Singh's death threat: Mumbai Police beefs up actor's security after sending voice note demanding ransom of crores of rupees

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh received a death threat on Tuesday. The threat has been made by sending a voice note to the actor on WhatsApp, in which the person who threatened has demanded a ransom of crores of rupees. According to sources, the Mumbai Police has tightened security outside Ranveer Singh's Bandra residence soon after receiving the threat. Additional police force has been deployed and people coming and going are being kept under strict vigil. The incident comes after five rounds were fired outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty on January 31, prompting the Mumbai Police to be on high alert in the matter. "In the threatening voice note, the accused has declared himself to be involved in a serious crime and has warned of consequences if he does not pay a large amount," police officials said. The Mumbai Police's cyber cell and crime branch are working together to trace the location of the accused through WhatsApp numbers and voice samples. Preliminary investigations are expressing suspicion that the person who made the threat may be associated with a criminal gang. The police are also probing whether the threat to Ranveer Singh is directly related to the firing incident at Rohit Shetty's house or if it is a conspiracy to spread fear. Police say the accused will be nabbed soon. The Mumbai Crime Branch is probing the firing incident that took place outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty on January 31. During the investigation, it has been revealed that Rohit Shetty was the main target of the attackers in this firing. The accused Asaram Fasale was arrested on February 5 in connection with the case. According to the police investigation, Asaram Fasale had been working as a garage mechanic for the last four years and was associated with the Lawrence gang. He used to supply weapons at the behest of gang mastermind Shubham Lonkar. Of the four accused already arrested in the case, Asaram Fasale was directly identified with Swapnil Sakat, who was identified by Shubham Lonkar. It is being told that it was Fasale who provided the weapons to Sukat on the instructions of the lonker, which was later delivered to an unidentified shooter. The same weapons were used in the firing incident. The crime branch has also received information that some people close to Asaram were aware of his association with the gang. However, the police are now investigating who they are and whether they have any direct connection with the Lawrence gang. An FIR has been registered against Ranveer Singh for mocking the goddess of 'Kantara' by calling her a ghost 10 days ago at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru against Ranveer Singh for allegedly insulting Hindu religious sentiments and the Chavandi Devi tradition of Karnataka. According to a report by NDTV, the matter pertains to the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa on November 28, 2025. The FIR against Ranveer Singh has been filed by Bengaluru-based lawyer Prashant Mittal. The complainant alleges that Ranveer Singh made objectionable remarks on stage and acted in a manner that made a mockery of the sacred elements of the Devi tradition. According to the complaint, Ranveer mimicked the expressions associated with Panjurli and Guliga Devi and presented them in an obscene, ridiculous and derogatory manner. Apart from this, the actor has also been accused of calling Chavundi Devi a 'lady ghost'. According to the complainant, Chavundi Devi is considered to be the protector goddess revered in the coastal areas of Karnataka and is a symbol of divine feminine power. Calling them 'ghosts' has been termed as hurting religious sentiments. The matter has now been referred to the first Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Bengaluru and the matter will be heard on April 8. Advocate Prashant Mithal filed a private complaint before the Additional Judicial Magistrate in Bengaluru on December 27, 2025, following which on January 23, 2026, the court directed the High Grounds Police to file an FIR under Section 175, Sub-Section 3 of the BNS. Why was there a controversy? Ranveer Singh was recently a part of IFFI (International Film Festival of India). Meanwhile, on stage, the actor made fun of Chavundi (Chamunda) Devi depicted in the film 'Kantara'. At the film festival, Ranveer Singh told the film's director and actor Rishab Shetty, "Rishabh, I saw him (Kantara) in the theatre. It was a wonderful performance, especially when the female ghost comes into your body. That performance, that one shot was amazing," Ranveer Singh said. When that shot comes." Further, Ranveer Singh himself made fun of the character while imitating it. Another video of Ranveer Singh has surfaced from the film festival, in which he was seen imitating Chavandi Devi in front of Rishab Shetty even after getting off the stage, however, Rishabh Shetty was seen stopping him by constantly gesturing to him. A complaint was lodged in Panaji against Ranveer Singh in Panaji. On December 2, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti filed a complaint against Ranveer for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. He also demanded an apology along with legal action after which the actor issued a public apology. Announcing the apology, Ranveer Singh wrote on his official Instagram account, "My intention was to highlight Rishabh's brilliant performance in the film (Kantara). As an actor, I know how hard it takes for him to play that particular scene and I respect him immensely for that. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and faith of our country. I sincerely apologize if anything I have said has hurt anyone's feelings.
