Arlie Russell of the University of California, Berkeley, says, "Billionaires can have children in batches through multiple surrogates at once. IVF technique is no longer just a means of procreation. It has become a tool for selecting gender selection, disease, and certain genetic traits. Only billionaires can afford it." Psychologists say that just as the kings of the old days saw their lineage as a source of power, some of today's tech-kings consider their blood to be the capital of the future. The only difference is that now there is technology in place of swords. According to American author Anna Louie Sussman, some women and children are the victims of this tune of billionaires. Questions have been raised on the exploitation of surrogate mothers, breach of consent, care of children. In many cases, the children grew up in other countries, relying on nurses, while for the father they remained mere figures. Sociologist Eva Illusz warns, "If there is no rigorous and moral debate on it, the very foundation of the family will be shaken."
