The MCD on Tuesday started the controlled demolition of the building adjacent to the mishap building in Satya Niketan. According to MCD officials, the building was declared 'dangerous'. The demolition work was stopped till Tuesday evening. It will resume on Wednesday morning. PG was running for girl students in the building. It was evacuated after the neighbouring building collapsed. At least 7 people were killed and 5 others injured in the building that collapsed in Satya Niketan on Sunday. On the other hand, a labour contractor has been arrested from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the building collapse. This is the fourth arrest in the case. Earlier, PG owner Hariram, his wife Urmila and son Mahesh were arrested by the police on Monday. The accused couple was produced before the Patiala House Court on Monday night on a 14-day remand and son for 2 days. Justice Bhavya Kharal remanded Hariram and Urmila to 14 days of judicial custody, while Mahesh to 2-day police custody. Students vacating PGs, 5 pictures... Inspection of dangerous buildings across Delhi The MCD has asked the executive engineers (buildings) of all zones to inspect the buildings in their area and submit a report by September 10. Notably, 7 people were killed and 5 others injured when a building collapsed in Satya Niketan on Sunday. This order has been issued after this accident. The information collected during the investigation will be included in the affidavit to be filed in the Delhi High Court within 10 days. The hearing will be held on September 25. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met the injured in the accident and announced assistance for them. MCD suspends 5 officials of South Zone The MCD on Monday suspended South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar after the accident. Along with him, four engineering officers have also been suspended till the departmental proceedings are completed. After this, IAS officer Shashwat Saurabh has been given the additional charge of the South Zone of MCD. Saurabh, an IAS officer of the 2016 batch AGMUT cadre, is currently the Deputy Commissioner of the South West Zone. Of the 300 houses where the tragedy took place, 170 PG Satya Niketan was set up between 1965 and 1970 for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers. After the South Campus started in the 1970s, colleges grew and students started living here. Many original allottees have already sold the houses. There are about 300 houses in the area. About 170 of them are PG. According to urban planning expert Jagdish Mamgen, many old buildings in Delhi are not built to bear the burden of extra floors. Out of nearly 75 lakh houses in Delhi, only 1.75 lakh buildings have approved building layout plans.
