Spain established a strong lead in the first half

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simone performed brilliantly throughout the match, maintaining a clean sheet in his fifth consecutive World Cup match. He also set a new World Cup record of not conceding a goal for 519 consecutive minutes. He broke Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga's record of 517 minutes without conceding a goal.
