The menace of stray dogs is increasing day by day in Rajkot city. The municipal corporation claims to have spent crores of rupees on the sterilization and sterilisation of dogs, but the reality is presenting a different picture. Stray dogs have recently created panic in the city's old Maheshwari Society, causing a lot of panic among the local residents. It has also become difficult for young children and the elderly to step out of the house. The scenes from Maheshwari Society are extremely frightening. Dogs run after small children passing through the street due to which the children are mentally scared. Dog menace is not limited to people but they are also damaging the parked cars of locals. Despite several verbal and written representations by the locals to the Rajkot Municipal Corporation in this regard, no concrete action has been taken by the administration so far. Live CCTV footage of the dog torture in the society has also come to light, which shows the failure of the system. In this whole matter, the municipal officer Dr. Upendra Patel, in a telephonic conversation with Divya Bhaskar, said that no complaint has been received from the area in the last one and a half months. Today, through Divya Bhaskar, he has come to the notice of Jameshwari Society. He defended that due to sudden changes in the atmosphere and increase in cold, dogs often become aggressive. However, he has assured that teams will be dispatched immediately to remove the menace of dogs in Maheshwari Society. If a dog is found to be overly aggressive during the investigation, it will be caught and transported to a dog friendly center where it will be given necessary treatment. The official further claimed that drives are conducted periodically in all areas of the city by the administration. In which aggressive dogs are separated and moved to the center and the work of slaughtering is done on a regular basis. But as per the rules of the Hon'ble Court, no dog can be moved permanently. Also, you have to leave it where you have been caught. However, whenever a dog becomes aggressive anywhere in the city, it is caught and brought to the dog-friendly center and calmed down. Looking at the CCTV footage of Maheshwari Society, the question arises that if various works are being done to prevent the menace of dogs at a cost of crores of rupees, then why is the number of stray dogs not decreasing in the city? At the same time, the locals are hoping that instead of just showing the work on paper, the municipality will come down to the grassroots level and find a permanent solution to this serious problem.
