On Wednesday evening, an 18-year-old boy opened fire at a school in Hat Yai, Thailand. The director of the school and a student were seriously injured in the attack. The accused later held a female staff member hostage. The young man was upset with the punishment his sister had received. The incident took place at around 4:45 p.m. at Prathan Khiriwat School in Hat Yi, the Thai Enquirer reported. Initial reports indicated that several people were injured, but officials have not yet confirmed the total number of dead. Police have identified the accused as 18-year-old Khem. According to media reports, the police had earlier received information that the accused was trying to harm his mother. When the police reached the house, the accused snatched the M4 rifle from the police officer and fled towards a nearby school campus, where he opened fire. "The attacker has been taken into custody and all hostages have been released," a police official told Reuters.
