The chill glow has increased as the wind speed dropped to zero in the city on Thursday night as the cold winds came straight towards the ground. The minimum temperature in the city fell by 2.7 degrees Celsius to 11.7 degrees Celsius on Friday, the lowest minimum temperature of the season in a single day. Naliya became the coldest city in the entire state with 4.8 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in most cities of the state, including Ahmedabad, has increased in the last 3 days due to the reduction in the amount of cold due to the activation of the western disturbance. However, the cold winds resumed on Thursday night as the minimum temperature approached 15 degrees Celsius, while the mercury dropped from 14.4 degrees Celsius to 2.7 degrees Celsius to 11.7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature rose by 1.2 degrees to 27.6 degrees Celsius. So the chill subsided from morning to afternoon, but the cold winds that started in the afternoon brought back the cold wave as the evening wore on. The mercury is expected to hover around 11.0 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. Meteorologist Ankit Patel said the wind speed in the city was around 9.3 kmph on Wednesday night. The mercury touched 14.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday as a mix of cold and hot winds blowing in the upper and lower levels of the atmosphere. Ahmedabad's AQI crosses 300, Chandkheda Gota, Ghumani air is the most polluted
The maximum air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 328 on Friday. According to AQI.in website, the city's air is so polluted that it is equivalent to smoking 4 cigarettes without smoking. Shantigram, Jai Ambe Nagar, Isanpur, Gota, Chandkheda were the areas with the highest pollution levels. When the AQI is above 200, it is considered to be a health hazard. Emissions from GIDC also increase AQI at night
One of the major reasons for the rise in AQI is inadequate monitoring of emissions from industrial areas at night. This air does not go out of the city as the wind speed is low in winter and appears in the form of fog or smog in the early morning. If the wind speed does not increase or there is no rain in the coming days, the AQI in Ahmedabad is likely to remain high for a few more days. Especially children, the elderly and people with breathing problems need to take precautions. - Dr Chirag Shah, Meteorologist, Expert
