US President Donald Trump has thrown his administration's support behind the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), linking the ambitious connectivity project to the need for alternative energy routes amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Speaking during a meeting with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump said recent attacks involving commercial shipping had underlined the need to move the region's energy infrastructure away from what he described as Iranian checkpoints.
