'I want to tell the government to give us justice, if a big man had died, the accused would have been in jail'

On June 17, 55-year-old rickshaw puller Rajubhai Thakor attempted suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Vadodara's Atladara area. He died on June 20 at Gotri Hospital while undergoing treatment. The family of the deceased cried for justice on the 12th day as the accused were not arrested even after 12 days of the incident. The family alleges that no stringent action has been taken so far against the abetment to suicide. Tired of being harassed by moneylenders, he is accused of shortening his life A serious case of a rickshaw driver ending his life due to harassment by moneylenders came to light in Atladara area of Vadodara city. However, even after 12 days of the incident, the police have not been able to nab the accused. On the twelfth day of the deceased, the family members expressed their anger and demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict action. The family says that despite several representations for justice, no satisfactory response has been received so far. According to the family's allegation, he had borrowed Rs 20,000 from a resident of Manjalpur area on interest, due to which he was constantly harassed. Fed up with the torture, Rajubhai committed suicide, the family said. Family members, including the son of the deceased, have questioned the functioning of the police. He alleges that the police have been inactive even in serious crimes like abetment to suicide and the accused are roaming freely. Now the family is appealing to the police department with the demand that the accused be arrested at the earliest and legal action be taken and they get justice. 'They come to our house even though we have paid the money' Anjaliben Thakor, daughter-in-law of the deceased, said, "Sir, we just want to say that we want justice. This is totally false hooliganism, we are poor people. The money was taken at interest, which we have repaid and also paid interest. Yet, he comes to our house, bullies us, beats us up and insults us in the middle of the street in public. How shocked would my father-in-law be today? How pained he must have been that he had to commit suicide. He had to end his life by consuming medicine. "We want the whole family to know that this person should be punished and that he should be behind bars today," he said. We want justice. If the police can't, tell us, we'll go ahead and take another legal action. It's been 12 days, but no one has contacted us yet, nor has there been any reply. All they say is 'we're looking'. It is not like this. If the deceased was a big man, he would have been behind bars long ago. Today we are destitute, we don't have money. There is no big man standing behind us. We are people who earn our livelihood by working as labourers. This is how we are treated today. 'We want justice' said the daughter-in-law of the deceased "I want to tell the authorities, the government and everyone that we should get justice. If you can't deliver justice we will go ahead and take another legal action. My father-in-law was the only one who ran our house. They used to make a living for us and they used to drive rickshaws. Whose support do we have today? Our father is gone, father-in-law is gone, the breadwinner of our house is gone, sir. Who will feed us and support us now? Who will take responsibility for this? There must be so many such hooliganism! I want to tell everyone to enact strict laws against usury so that no innocent person has to face such atrocities in future. This is their wrong bullying. You give money on interest, you take interest and you take principal money, yet you kill and blackmail you! This is wrong, isn't it? And if they were concerned about money, they should have come and talked to other family members in the house. Someone would have given it to someone. We want justice. Wherever he is, you find him and put him behind bars. Until that person goes to jail, my father-in-law will not get justice and his soul will not rest in peace. If I don't get justice, my family members and I will go to the top, as far as we can, but we are not going to back down. Police have not been able to nab the accused even for 12 days: Deceased's son Sagar Thakor, son of the deceased, said, "The current situation is that it has been 12 days since my father passed away. Today his 12th-13th is over. We have registered a case against a person named Mayur but no strict action has been taken by the police so far. He has not been caught yet and the search is not over. What have the police been doing for so long? If nothing happens by the local police here, we will move on. If nothing happens from there, we will go to Gandhinagar and if nothing happens from there, we will go to Delhi.
