Vadodara: Dev Irrigation Canal collapses in Waghodia's Dankheda, complete destruction of farmers' crops

After the recent heavy rains in Waghodia taluka, there was a sudden big gap in the minor canal of the Dev irrigation scheme passing through Dankheda village. The canal, which was meant to supply irrigation water to farmers, could not withstand even the normal flow of flood water and collapsed in a matter of seconds. As soon as there was a gap in the canal, thousands of gallons of water flowed into the surrounding seam area.

Sudden big gap in Minor Canal

Due to this sudden flood, the fields of the farmers of Dankheda village were flooded, completely washing away the crops sown with expensive seeds and fertilizer. Apart from this, thousands of raw bricks kept for cooking were also turned into mud due to the entry of canal water into the brick kiln near the canal, causing huge financial losses to the brick kiln operators. According to the villagers and farmers of Dankheda village, this minor canal of Dev Irrigation was constructed only 4 months ago. The fact that a canal built at a cost of crores of rupees collapses in the first rain or within four months is an indication of massive corruption in direct operations.

Farmers' anger and serious allegations

Local farmers have alleged that the contractor had done extremely poor work by making heavy cuts in cement and materials. There are allegations that the responsible officials of the administration have also passed the bills without proper checking of the work.
