With the changing environment, with the increase in the number of viral infections, the infection of swine flu (influenza-A H1N1) is also being seen in children. Real-time RT-PCR tests of samples of three children aged between 2 and 15 years in a private hospital have been found to be H1N1 positive. On the other hand, the number of children coming to the Civil Hospital for treatment of viral flu has increased from 79 in June to 116 in July and 39 in the first eight days of August. There has also been a 50 per cent increase in children coming to private hospitals with symptoms like viral flu, dengue and adenovirus. The children were admitted with symptoms of persistent fever, headache, severe cold and cough.

Instead of 50, 75 patients are coming to the OPD. Children in the age group of 3 to 17 years are more likely to suffer from cold, cough, high grade fever, abdominal pain and diarrhoea and vomiting.
