World Food Safety Day: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is 'food safety' in name only, and when it comes to controlling adulteration of food products, it is a crippling picture. In the last four years, 42790 samples have been taken to check for adulteration in food in Gujarat. Of these, 3,107 have been fined, 180 have been convicted and only 30 have their licenses suspended.
Gujarat is not even among the top five states in the highest number of food samples.
During the year 2024-25, 60,448 food samples were tested in Gujarat.
