5 drones spotted on LoC in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch: Claim - Pakistan in an attempt to infiltrate; Army's counter-attack, security forces launch search operation

About 5 drones were spotted near the border and Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba, Rajouri and Poonch on Sunday evening. According to a report by news agency PTI, the jawans guarding the Nowshera sector in Rajouri spotted the drone over Gania-Kalsian village at around 6.35 pm. They then fired from medium and light machine guns. Another drone was spotted at 6.35 pm in Khabbar village of Teriyath in Rajouri. The drone came from Dharamsal village in Kalakot and moved towards Bharukh further. At around 7.15 pm, a drone-like object was seen hovering over Chak Babral village in Ramgarh sector of Samba for a few minutes. In Poonch too, another object like a drone was seen moving from Tain to Topa at around 6.25 pm in Mankot sector. Security forces have launched a search operation in the forward areas after suspicious drone movements were spotted in the forward areas. Earlier on January 9, a cache of weapons was found in Palura village of Ghagwal near IB in Samba, which was shot down by a drone from Pakistan. It included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds and a grenade. Security agencies are on high alert for Republic Day in the country. Security agencies suspect that these drones are being used to know the army's position on the border or to drop weapons and narcotics for terrorists. What is Operation Sindoor, which is still going on The Army attacked a drone after 8 months of Operation Sindhur. Operation Sindhur was a military operation of India that was carried out on 7 May 2025, carrying out surgical strikes/air strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistani and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). It was named Operation Sindoor. The operation was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. At least 26 people were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. Within 25 minutes, nine Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) hideouts in Pakistan, including Bahawalpur and Muridke, were destroyed. During an event in Pune recently, CDS Anil Chauhan said that Operation Sindoor is not over yet, but it has been stopped. If Pakistan launches a terrorist attack or infiltration, Operation Sindhur will be reactivated.
