Accident: 7 residents died in a landslide in Ghatkopar

Amid heavy rains overnight in Mumbai, a tragic landslide triggered a tragic landslide in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Chirag Nagar's Gausia Chawl and Rathore Medical Area in Kurla-West near Ghatkopar. At around 3.48 am on Wednesday, a large part of the hill suddenly collapsed. The families did not even have a chance to escape as huge debris of mud and huge stones swept over two or three houses. According to the information received from the Mumbai Municipal Disaster Management, 7 people were killed in the tragic accident, while a total of 7 people were injured. Within a few moments, there was screaming, chaos and a pile of debris in the houses where the family was sleeping peacefully. Families rushed to the spot to find their loved ones and heart-wrenching scenes were created in the entire area. The deceased have been identified as 14-year-old Mohammed Sameer Ansari, 19-year-old Sahil Hussain Abdul Qazi, 45-year-old Aban Arif Sheikh, 4-year-old Manat Arif Sheikh, 27-year-old Marjina Arif Shaikh and 27-year-old Viket Ramesh Yadav. Three children aged between two and 14 were among the dead. The tragedy sparked grief in the entire area. The condition of the three people who are undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital has been identified as Dilbar Khan (28), Dilbar Amanullah Khan (38) and Shamin Muslim Khan (26). Four people are undergoing treatment at Kurla Bhabha Hospital, including 18-year-old Sohail Ansari, 14-year-old Mohammad Ansari, 28-year-old Naimuddin Iqbal Khan and 16-year-old Sajid Ansari. The condition of all of them is said to be stable. Teams including Ghatkopar Police, Fire Brigade, Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Disaster Management Teams and NDRF rushed to the spot as soon as the landslide was reported. Rescue operations were being carried out on a war footing following fears that more people were trapped under the debris. The narrow lanes of the spot posed a major challenge to the rescue operations. Removal of debris and stones at several places became difficult as heavy machinery became difficult to carry inside. Yet the rescue teams left no stone unturned. Mayor visits the spot Mayor Ritu Tawde reached the spot and supervised the rescue operations. He said that some people are still feared to be trapped under the debris, and rescue operations are being carried out swiftly by all concerned agencies. He said that due to the narrow lanes of the area, it is difficult to carry heavy machinery, forcing manual removal of stones and soil at some places.
