Due to the close trade and social ties of the people of Kutch with Ahmedabad, there is huge demand for air connectivity on this route. Star Air's flight between Bhuj and Ahmedabad was stopped a year ago after the central government's UDAN scheme contract ended. However, keeping in view the demand of the people, Kutch is going to be connected again from Ahmedabad after a year. Flights to Ahmedabad will start from August 17 from New Mundra Airport, the bookings for which will start in a day or two. Star Air will operate flights between Mundra and Ahmedabad 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). The flight from Ahmedabad to Mundra will depart at 6.40 am and reach Mundra at 7.30 pm, while the flight from Mundra to Ahmedabad will depart at 18.40 pm and reach Ahmedabad at 19.30 pm. Mundra Airport to handle 42 flights a week
The Mundra Commercial Airport, which became operational a month and a half ago, has been receiving a response from passengers. With the implementation of the new flight schedule to Ahmedabad, a total of 42 flights will be operated from Mundra airport during the week. Flights from Mundra to Mumbai are available all seven days a week. Apart from this, there is also direct connectivity to Goa (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday morning and Wednesday, Friday afternoon), Surat (Tuesday, Jupiter, Saturn) and Hindon (Wednesday and Friday) of Delhi NCR. Notably, all other routes except Surat are currently witnessing 70 to 80 per cent passenger traffic. Kandla airport closed in Bhuj, only Air India base
On the one hand, Mundra airport has become busy, while on the other hand, only Air India flights now operate to the district headquarters Bhuj airport. There are daily flights from Bhuj to Mumbai and Delhi, with a total of 42 flights a week with 6 departures daily. On an average, 800 to 900 tourists are registered here. On the other hand, the Gandhidham-Adipur complex and the Kandla airport, which is important for industries in East Kutch, are currently closed. A worrisome situation has arisen as not a single flight is operating from here. Following this, local leaders and organisations have made a representation to the central government to immediately expand the Kandla airport and start new flights.
