Shuttle rickshaw gang robbed elderly woman of Rs 2 lakh: Elaben, who was sitting outside Kalupur railway station, was taken to Memco and robbed of cash and jewellery.

Elaben Shah, a 69-year-old woman who had returned to Ahmedabad from Mumbai after performing her sister-in-law's last rites, found it difficult to hire a rickshaw from outside the Kalupur railway station. Elaben, who was sitting in a rickshaw to Memnagar, was robbed by the rickshaw driver and the gang who were sitting with her in the passenger swing. The gangsters looted gold mangalsutra and Rs 8,000 cash from them and fled after looting valuables worth Rs 2.18 lakh. 'If you want to live, sit quietly' Elaben, a resident of Gurukul Road, was sitting in a rickshaw to Memnagar after getting down at Kalupur station, in which two men were already seated. The rickshaw driver diverted the rickshaw towards Memco on the pretext that road work was going on. When Elaben was asked to stop the rickshaw on suspicion, the gangsters caught hold of her and threatened to kill her. They then robbed him of jewellery and cash and pushed him out of the rickshaw. Kalupur police have intensified the investigation on the basis of CCTV footage. After the incident, Elaben informed the family and lodged a complaint at the Kalupur police station. Kalupur police have registered a case against the rickshaw driver and his gang and have set the wheels in motion to nab the accused on the basis of CCTV footage from and around the route.
