Ahmedabad: Police issue notification for garage-workshop in Ahmedabad, know what details to give?

Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner G. Kishan Reddy has been directed to curb the rising crimes and vehicle theft incidents in Ahmedabad city. S. An important notification has been issued by Dr. Malik on March 08, 2026. This new rule will be applicable in the entire city of Ahmedabad from March 08, 2026 to May 06, 2026, i.e. for a total of 50 days. Under this, it has become mandatory for the owners of all garages, vehicle repair centers and service stations in the city to keep a complete record of the people who come to repair the vehicles

Earlier, garage owners or managers didn't ask for any credentials or maintain any registers for their customers. As a result, it used to take a long time for the police to solve serious crimes and reach the culprits. This has been done with a view to maintain law and order in the city.

What will garage operators have to do under the new rule?

• Henceforth, whenever you go to a garage or workshop with your vehicle, the garage owner will have to record your information in a special register.
• This information should include the vehicle type, company name, vehicle registration number, engine number and chassis number.
• The date on which the vehicle was put in the garage and the date on which it was taken back will also be mandatory.
• The most important thing is that the details of the person coming to deliver the vehicle and the person coming to pick it up will also be recorded.

It is not enough just to keep notes on paper. As per the order of the police commissioner, it is mandatory to install CCTV cameras for surveillance at the main entrance and exit of all garages and service stations. The recording of these cameras will have to be preserved for at least 30 days, so that whenever the police come for checking, they can easily get documents and footage.

If any garage owner or operator does not comply with these rules, legal action will be taken against them under Section 223 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Code 2023. Officers of the rank and above of the police department have been empowered to register a complaint against the violators
