A stray lioness, which attacked and created a ruckus in a single day in the border areas of Arjansukh and Tori villages in Wadia taluka of Amreli district, died after rescuing a stray lioness. The lioness was found to have initial rabies-like symptoms and a serious concern has spread in the forest department. 12-hour operation and attack on 5 people On October 1, around 12 pm, Mehul Waja and Bhagirathbhai Basia of Tori village were returning on a bike after completing the fifth event. Suddenly, a lioness attacked them near Arjansukh Patia and the car fell down and both of them sustained injuries on their hands and legs. Later in the morning, the same lioness suddenly rushed and attacked two more locals, including orchard owner Atulbhai, who was working in a cotton field in the Sim area. As soon as the incident was reported, 6 to 7 teams of the forest department reached for scanning. During the rescue operation, the lioness also attacked forest guard Aniruddha Wala. According to Anirudhbhai, the lioness sat with her face on her hands, but she moved away after being hit by other staff. After about 12 hours of hard work, the forest department team tranquilized the lioness around 1 pm and successfully caged her and shifted her to the Crankach Animal Care Center for further investigation. The Minister of State for Home visited the hospital and inquired about the condition of the lioness. All the 5 people who were injured in the lioness attack were immediately admitted to the Shantaba Civil Hospital in Amreli through 108 for treatment. State Law and Energy Minister Kaushik Vekaria visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured and directed the forest department to provide proper treatment to the medical staff and instruct the forest department to increase patrolling in rural areas. Lioness dies after seizure, possibility of rabbit The lioness was constantly being monitored after the lioness was caged in a cage. During the process of examination and sample collection by the veterinary doctors, the lioness suddenly suffered a seizure and her health deteriorated further and died soon after. According to DCF Chirag Amin and ACF Rajan Jadhav of Shetrunji division, the initial symptoms of rabies were clearly seen in the lioness. However, the official and exact cause of death can be announced only after the laboratory report is received. Earlier too, lionesses died due to rabies The increase in cases of rabies in lions like dogs in Amreli district has posed a major challenge to the forest department. In the last one and a half years, 4 lionesses have died in Dhareshwar of Rajula, Mitiyala and Babarkot areas of Jafrabad for attacking humans by behaving unusually, in which reports of rabies have also been reported positive. The spread of rabies epidemic among violent wildlife like lions can create a very dangerous situation for the coming time, in which the forest department has initiated a high-level investigation and pre-emptive action.
