Vadodara: Public outrage against municipal corporations and corporators as road builds up in Bill Tank area

The gross negligence of the road engineering department of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation has once again come to the fore amid the rumours of making Vadodara a smart city. Before the onset of the monsoon season, the municipality had claimed to have completed the pre-monsoon work at a cost of crores of rupees. But the real picture is quite different. The main road in Vadodara's Beel Tank area has suddenly sat in the ground and has fallen into a big pothole. Thousands of motorists and school-going children pass through this busy road every day, due to which there is now a great physical danger and danger of accidents.

Leaders disappear after elections, anger among citizens

Angered by the dangerous road, the residents of the Bill Tank area took to the streets and raised slogans against the administration and elected public representatives (corporators). "We pay property tax, water tax and sanitation tax to the corporation regularly and on time every year. Locals further alleged that when elections come, corporators and leaders of political parties queue up with folded hands in societies to beg for votes, but today when the road has been blocked and people are upset, not a single corporator bothers to visit the area or listen to people's complaints.

Freezing Policy and Double Water Crisis

According to locals, this is not a new problem, a similar 'Ramayana' is created here every year during the monsoon. Whenever a complaint is made, the municipal administration is content with only a 'makeshift patchwork' with cheap material or crush, which is washed away again in the first rain. Along with this poor road disaster, there has also been a serious problem of clean drinking water in this diocese for a long time. People are living under the threat of epidemics due to availability of contaminated or inadequate water. Giving an ultimatum to the administration, the residents have demanded that only sitting in air-conditioned offices and stop showing pre-monsoon work on paper and that the road in the area be strengthened and permanently repaired with asphalt-concrete immediately, otherwise there will be a fierce agitation and gherao of the municipal office in the coming days.
