Bulldozer turned on hotels encroaching on open space: Strict action against hotels encroaching illegally in Andheri

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now initiated strict action against hotels that are illegally encroaching on open spaces. Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. The West Division office had removed unauthorised constructions of well-known hotels located in Andheri West area following directions from Ashwini Joshi. The service area was illegally extended to the 'What's Your Excuse', Trove 9, Juliet and Yazoo hotels located in the area of Veera Desai Road and Office New Link Road in Andheri West. The municipal team took action by removing all these unauthorised constructions. The joint operation was carried out on June 9 under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner (Zone-4) Bhagyashree Kapse and Assistant Commissioner (K West Division) Chakrapani Ale. Teams from the Health Department, Licensing Department, Fire Brigade and Building and Factory Department joined the operation. During the operation, materials including 24 chairs, one cooking range, microwave oven, three coolers, one electric fryer and two speakers were seized. A total of 20 personnel, including departmental officers, employees, labourers and fire brigade staff, were deployed for the operation. Also, illegal structures were removed with the help of JCB machinery. Assistant commissioner Chakrapani Ale said the hoteliers had made illegal use of the open space in violation of rules. The municipality has now adopted a zero tolerance policy against such unauthorised constructions. He made it clear that strict action against such malpractices will continue in the future as well.
