Which 5 states in India have the highest risk of childhood cancer? British Journal reveals

childhood cancer in India: A very worrying and sensitive report has come out for India's health sector. The report has given startling details about the serious health problems faced by children in our country.

Recently an important study has been published in a very famous British research magazine "Journal of Cancer Policy". This study has made many major revelations about childhood cancer in India.

Many leading cancer experts of the country, including AIIMS in New Delhi, have done this in-depth research. This report states that the number of children suffering from cancer in certain states of the country is much higher than in other states.

which are the top 5 most affected states?

To prepare this

data of more than 22,000 children with cancer from across the country was analyzed very closely. Based on this, a list of the most affected states in the country has been released.

According to the report, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of children diagnosed with cancer in India. Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for 22.6 per cent of the total cases in the country, with 5,057 such patients

The country's capital New Delhi comes second in this shocking list. The burden of pediatric cancer in Delhi is 19.2 percent of the total cases. While the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu ranks third in this list.

Tamil Nadu reported 4,010 children affected by cancer, accounting for 18 per cent of the total cases. In addition, Andhra Pradesh ranks fourth with 1,354 cases (6.1 per cent). Apart from these major states, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar have also seen a significantly higher number of such patients

Treatment for patients and the long journey is a big struggle

This research report not only shows the statistics of the patients but also throws light on the practical and financial hardships faced by their families during treatment. Paediatric cancer hospitals in the country are very unevenly distributed.

Due to this disparity, families living in rural and backward areas have to suffer a lot for cancer treatment for their children. According to the report, such families travel an average of 2 to 3 hours to reach the hospital.

More than 60 per cent of families are forced to travel long distances to big cities for every therapy or general check-up. According to doctors, children with solid tumours have to travel longer distances for surgery than blood cancer

Frequent long journeys and financial hardship often compel many poor families to abandon treatment in the middle of the journey. This is a very sad reality that raises questions about the healthcare system of the country><

Experts provide important policy advice to the Government

Experts from AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Kalyani and Chennai Cancer Institute, who participated in this important study, have given some pertinent suggestions to the government. They have recommended that the government should make concrete and effective policies in this direction.

Doctors clearly believe that it is very important to expand cancer care facilities for children not only in big metros but also at regional and district levels. There is an urgent need to further strengthen the regional treatment network

Besides, the referral system should also be improved widely to detect cancer at an early stage. If early signs of cancer in children are detected early and treatment is initiated on time, their survival rate can be increased significantly.
