The dispute between cattle rearers and dairy unions in Dahegam taluka of Gandhinagar district has now escalated. In the legal and administrative battle between Uttam Dairy in Ahmedabad and Madhur Dairy in Gandhinagar, the condition of thousands of cattle rearers has become dire. The sudden decision by Madhur Dairy to stop accepting milk from cattle rearers in Dahegam has sparked outrage across the diocese. The women of the Mahila Milk Producers' Association staged a unique protest at Nava Thambhaliya village in Dahegam taluka to protest against the dispute. The villagers, including the woman, took out a symbolic nanam of Uttam Dairy chairman Mohan Bharwad. After that, he burnt the effigy and performed a ritual funeral. This incident has caused a major earthquake in cooperative politics. Uttam Dairy refused to take milk as Uttam Dairy got a stay from the court
The root of the entire dispute lies in the purview of milk prices and dairy unions. About 70 active milk societies and 35 sub-centres in Dahegam taluka collect 50,000 litres of milk daily. For the last four months, the milk was going to Madhur Dairy in Gandhinagar, which was started before Diwali. However, Madhur Dairy suddenly refused to take milk after the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union (Uttam Dairy) obtained a stay from the court in the matter. It is alleged that Uttam Dairy is getting Rs 20 less per fat
The cattle rearers of Dahegam allege that they get a price as low as Rs 20 per fat at Uttam Dairy and do not get paid for the price change, due to which they have to suffer an economic loss of Rs 50-60 per litre. The cattle rearers say that even though Dahegam taluka falls in Gandhinagar district, they are forced to fill milk at the Uttam Dairy of Ahmedabad Sangh, which is completely unfair. The collector's office protested by spilling milk on the road
A delegation of cattle rearers made a presentation at Madhur Dairy after a chakkajam at Nehru Chowk last Tuesday night. But the dairy did not bow down on the pretext of the court order. Angered by this, the cattle rearers protested against the Collector's office by spilling milk on the road at the Dahegam Mamlatdar office. Milk transport halted across the district
The Pashupalak Hit Rakshak Samiti has alleged that the livelihood of the families of 1 lakh cattle rearers is in jeopardy due to the stubborn attitude of Mohan Bharwad. The agitators have warned that if there is no permanent and affordable solution to the milk price and collection issues in the coming days, the transportation of milk will be stopped in the entire district and an agitation will be launched in the coming days.
