Rape, Murder, Encounter & Inquiry: Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran face to face, Meghna Gulzar's 'Dairaa' trailer released

Should the accused who raped and murdered the girl be punished or should the accused be shown mercy in the name of human rights? The trailer of the film 'Dairaa' has been released to answer this pervasive question and depict the crime, the system's actions, the insistence on human rights and the pain of the victim's family in an interesting way. Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor and South star Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer 'Daaira' is directed by Meghna Gulzar, who has made films like 'Raazi' and 'Chhappaak'. Despite no noise and unnecessary beatings, the film's 2-minute and 19-second trailer holds it up till the end. Crossing the 'realm' of the law or not? The trailer begins with two police officers, Ajuni Kohli (Kareena Kapoor) and police officer Raman Kumar. One DCP (Kareena) is in favour of punishing the crime within the 'realm' of the law, while the other DCP (Prithviraj) is seen in favor of getting justice to the victim even by going beyond the 'circle' of the law. The trailer begins with a case of an encounter, which is related to the case of a missing girl. On the one hand, where DCP Raman calls it an encounter, DCP Ajuni calls it a fake encounter and leads the Special Investigation Team to investigate the case closely. The difference of ideology between the two is clearly visible. Amid the talk of rules and laws, the pain, helplessness and cries of the missing daughter's mother raises eyebrows. The story not only ends with the culprit being punished, but also presents the challenges the victim's family has to go through. The story asks the question, should the law be taken into one's own hands to get justice? Or is it right to go above the law? Kareena and Prithviraj will be seen together for the first time It is worth noting that Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor and South star Prithviraj Sukumaran are sharing the screen together for the first time in 'Dairaa'. In the trailer, Kareena's calm and confident form is seen, while in stark contrast, Prithviraj is seen in a rough, tough and intense look. Apart from the two, Biswapati Sarkar and Jitendra Joshi are playing important roles. Meghna Gulzar's strong comeback Meghna Gulzar's films have seen a very strong female character, be it 'Raazi' (Alia Bhatt) or 'Chhapaak' (Deepika Padukone). Vicky Kaushal played the lead role in Meghna's last release 'Sam Bahadur' (2023). Now, Meghna is all set for a comeback with 'Daaara'. Apart from direction, Charu has also been involved with Sri Roy in the editing of Meghna. Apart from this, she has also taken charge of the story and screenplay along with Yash Keswani and Seema Agarwal. The film is working with music composer Amit Trivedi and veteran lyricist Gulzar for the first time. 'Daaira' will be released in theatres on September 18, 2026.
