With the completion of this highway project, direct connectivity with Delhi-Katra road will make it easier, safer and faster for tourists and pilgrims from Gujarat and Western India to reach Mata Vaishno Devi and Jammu and Kashmir. 8 km long second parallel tunnel planned between Jammu and Srinagar On the other hand, to provide a permanent solution to the problem of increasing traffic and traffic jams between Jammu and Srinagar, a second parallel tunnel of 8 km length is also under serious consideration. Earlier, to ease travel between the two cities, the 8.2 km long Chenani-Nashri tunnel was opened in 2017, with facilities of CCTV cameras at every 75 meters and emergency exits at every 300 meters. With the construction of this tunnel, the distance between Jammu-Srinagar has been reduced by 30 kms and travel time has been reduced by one and a half hours, so a new parallel tunnel is now being planned to cater to the increased traffic.
