Five villages in Dholka taluka have been protesting against contaminated water for 11 days, threatening to gherao if no solution is found

Against the same apathy of the administration, the villagers threatened to gherao the local office bearers if the problem was not resolved.   The people of five villages, including Bhetawada, Trasad, Nesda and Paldi, have been protesting for the last 11 days against the toxic water containing contaminated chemicals. It is to be noted that yesterday   MP Geniben Thakor also visited Bhetawada. He reached the protest camp and met the villagers and listened to their representations on the problem of contaminated water. It is learnt that representations were made by the villagers on the impact on water, agricultural land and health.

Locals are angry with the demand for permanent disposal of municipal wastewater and chemical-laden toxic water from industries that have been dumped in the open for more than 15 years. Villagers allege that thousands of acres of land have been destroyed due to contaminated chemical-laden water mixing with groundwater. The incidence of cancer and dangerous skin diseases has increased in the area due to contaminated water. Locals allege that more than 11 people have died of cancer and more than 50 cancer patients have died in five villages so far due to contaminated water. Not only this, a large number of people and small children are suffering from various types of diseases.

However, the villagers have alleged that no concrete action has been taken by the local administration even though the agitation has been going on for 11 days. They have also threatened to gherao the local office bearers if there is no permanent solution to the problem.
