There have been complaints of stray dogs being harassed in the main market area of Porbandar for some time now. Traders as well as people coming for shopping are being harassed as stray dogs are seen in many places during the day in the market. Pedestrians have to pass through the middle of the shops as the dogs sit in hindsight outside the shops and in the middle of the road. Due to the large number of people coming to the main market for shopping, there is a fear of accidents when the dogs suddenly run or run behind vehicles. Locals say that it is causing trouble especially for children and the elderly. There is also an atmosphere of fear among the people due to fights between dog herds in this main market. Locals have demanded that the municipal corporation should take appropriate action on the problem of stray dogs in busy areas, including the main market, and provide relief to pedestrians and traders.
