With the help of technical surveillance and informers, the police identified the accused and nabbed Ankit alias Lalla Uday Bahadur Yadav (24), a resident of Pandesara Amritnagar, and Vikas Ramchandra Gupta (22), a delivery boy living in Visatnagar. The accused had withdrawn Rs 10,000 from the SBI ATM in Titanium Square near Adajan crossroads on September 12 on the pretext of helping a complainant. Apart from this, on August 27, he also confessed to cheating another complainant from the SBI ATM near Adajan Varun Circle by cheating and withdrawing Rs 21,000. The police have recovered Rs 21,000 in cash from the accused. The main accused Ankit alias Lalla has been booked for 4 offences, including assault.
The criminal history of the arrested mastermind Ankit alias Lalla has come to light. He is a convicted accused involved in serious crimes in the past. He has been booked under 3 offences under assault, intimidation and breach of arms at Pandesara police station and 1 case under breach of trust (IPC 406) at Dindoli police station. Recently, a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was also registered against him in Pandesara. The Adajan police have registered a case under sections 318(4) and 54 of the BNS against the accused and are seeking further remand.
