Major accident in Gandhinagar's Kudasan: 10 to 15 labourers trapped after slab collapses at under-construction site

Gandhinagar Kudasan crane collapse: A very serious and heart-wrenching tragedy took place in the busy and fast-growing Kudasan area near Gandhinagar city on Wednesday night. According to preliminary information, a huge crane and a large part of an iron slab collapsed on the site of a huge commercial building named 'Bosky the Empire' which is under construction near Reliance Chowk. At around 9.15 pm, when the work of erecting an iron slab between the two units at the site was in full swing, the slab and the heavy part of the crane fell down with an explosion. The sound of the accident was so loud that there was a lot of panic and panic among the residents of the surrounding area.

Approximately 10 to 15 innocent labourers working at the construction site are feared to have been buried under heavy debris and heavy iron structures in this horrific accident. As soon as the incident took place, a large number of alert locals in the vicinity rushed to the spot and immediately started initial relief and rescue operations on humanitarian grounds. Recognizing the seriousness of the incident, a large convoy of local police and more than 5 vehicles of the Gandhinagar Fire Brigade reached the spot within a few minutes blaring sirens

Presently, the special rescue team of the fire department is working day and night on war footing to remove the debris with the help of state-of-the-art equipment and to evacuate the workers trapped inside. The rescue work is facing some difficulties as it is night time, but the operation has been intensified by making adequate arrangements for lighting. Multiple teams of 108 ambulance services have also been deployed at the spot following the mishap. The injured workers, who were pulled out of the debris after a lot of struggle, are being given first aid and rushed to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for more intensive treatment. The hospital administration has also been alerted for any emergency

The district administration is giving top priority to the rescue operation which lasted till late in the night. However, there is no official statistical confirmation by the police or fire brigade officials so far as to how many labourers are trapped in the debris, how many people are seriously injured or if there has been any casualty in the mishap. The entire system is in place and the situation is being monitored closely. After the completion of the rescue operation, there is a possibility of a high-level inquiry into the compliance of safety norms and maintenance of cranes at the construction site.
