Heavy rains in Gujarat, Maharashtra today, Army on standby: Ganga reaches dangerous level in Haridwar; Chhattisgarh: Under-construction bridge collapses

As the month of July ends, it is raining heavily across the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a red alert has been issued for Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch and Madhya Maharashtra today. The red alert means more than 8 inches of rain in 24 hours. Orange alert has been issued in Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Konkan-Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka. On the other hand, all schools and colleges in Gujarat will be closed today. According to the Meteorological Department, up to 12 inches of rain is expected in the state. In Himachal, 130 roads are still closed. The death toll due to the floods in Assam has risen to 80. The number of flood victims in the state has come down to 2 lakh. Due to incessant rains in the hilly and plain areas, the Ganga river in Haridwar has reached close to the danger level.
