India issues advisory on Iran-Israel war: Appeals to Indians in Gulf countries to stay at home; Demand to bring back Kashmiri students

Tensions in the Gulf region have escalated after a joint military attack on Iran by the United States and Israel. In view of the situation, the Indian government on Saturday issued an advisory for its citizens living in the Gulf countries, including Iran and Israel, urging them to stay at home. The Indian Missions in Iran, Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and Palestine have advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid non-essential travel. Indian tourists in Jordan have also been advised to leave the country before possible flight disruption. The Jammu and Kashmir Students' Association (JKSA) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the safety of Indian students studying in Iran. The association has demanded that the students be brought back. On Saturday morning, Israel attacked several cities, including the Iranian capital Tehran. In response, Iran fired nearly 400 missiles, targeting Israel as well as US bases in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Dubai. More than 10,000 Indians were living in Iran as of January, the Indian Embassy in Tehran said in an advisory. This includes a large number of students who are pursuing medical and other courses there. There are more than 41,000 people of Indian origin living in Israel. The embassy has appealed to people to keep track of safe havens near them and avoid unnecessary travel. In case of any emergency, it is necessary to follow the directions of the local administration. The Government of India has said that it is constantly monitoring the situation in these countries and the embassies are in touch with the local administration. Further action will be taken if necessary. Indian nationals are currently urged not to panic, but to remain cautious, rely only on official information and immediately contact the respective embassies in case of any emergency. According to JKSA, a large number of Kashmiri students are pursuing MBBS and other medical courses in Iran. Important national exams like 'Ulumpaya' and pre-internships are scheduled to be held on 5th March 2026, so many students are not able to leave the country at present. JKSA said that students are worried about safety on one side and studies and future on the other. The association has called for better coordination between the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy in Tehran and the Iranian authorities and arrangements for safe evacuation if required. ------------------------------------ also read this news...
