Vadodara/Mumbai: Relief news has emerged for passengers associated with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the Vadodara-Mumbai section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is targeted to be opened to the general public by August 31, 2026. Once this section becomes operational, the road travel time between Vadodara and Mumbai is likely to reduce from around 8 hours to approximately 4 hours.
According to available information, the total length of the Vadodara-Mumbai section is approximately 157 kilometers. This section is being constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹24,000 crore. The project has been divided into seven construction packages, of which work on five packages has been completed, while construction on the remaining two packages is progressing rapidly.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is considered one of the country’s most ambitious road infrastructure development projects. This eight-lane, access-controlled greenfield expressway, approximately 1,386 kilometers long, is being developed with the aim of connecting the national capital Delhi and the financial capital Mumbai through a modern road network.
This mega project, being built at a cost of around ₹95,000 crore, is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from nearly 24 hours to about 12 hours once it becomes fully operational. In addition, this expressway will give new momentum to freight movement, industrial activity, tourism, and regional economic development across several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.
According to experts, once the Vadodara-Mumbai section becomes operational, commercial and industrial connectivity between Gujarat and Maharashtra will become smoother, resulting in significant savings in both time and fuel for travelers. However, the exact date for the project’s final inauguration and commencement of traffic operations will be determined as per the official notification issued by the concerned agencies.
Note: This news report has been prepared in a factual and balanced manner based on publicly available announcements and project-related information.
