Vadodara News: Climate Change Exhibition Center to be set up at MSU's Donors Plaza, Rs 17 crore grant allocated

The Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara city has registered another proud achievement in the field of environmental research. The Gujarat government has allocated a grant of Rs 17 crore to the university to set up a Climate Change Impact and Awareness Centre. The Gujarat government had invited proposals for climate change science and infrastructure from universities and research institutes across the state. Among the government universities, the proposal of MSU proved to be the best.

One can feel firsthand the gravity of climate change

Subsequently, a multi-disciplinary team of experts from various disciplines such as Faculty of Technology, Botany, Zoology and Computer Science presented this intensive proposal to the Education Minister in Gandhinagar. In this regard, MSU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhalchandra Bhatege said that the main objective is that this project should not be limited to the research of academics but should reach out to the common citizens and school-college students. For this project, there is a plan to set up a live experience museum on the lines of Science Park/Science City by allocating space at Donors Plaza, which is considered to be the central location of the university campus. So that anyone can easily reach and feel the gravity of climate change firsthand.

Will prove to be a model project in the field of climate action

This museum will not be just an exhibition of pictures or photographs, but will be completely experience-based. This center, which will be built with a grant of Rs 17 crore from the state government, will prove to be a model project in the field of environmental awareness and climate action in Gujarat. In this center, interactive games will be explained in a very interesting way how the common man knowingly or unknowingly creates a carbon footprint. Live game-modeling of how much carbon footprint is generated by satellites and data towers by simply writing a Hi or Good Morning on a smartphone, forwarding a message or posting a reel. Apart from this, while cutting the plastic pouch of milk, social awareness will be given about the harm caused by throwing a small triangular piece of loose or plastic waste mixing with the soil. Registrar Dr. K.M. Chudasama said.
