NDMA Emergency Alert: Did the siren start ringing on your phone at 11:41 am? Know the reason for this alert message

NDMA Emergency Alert:  Today, 2nd May, 2026 at around 11:41 PM, an emergency alert was sounded with a loud voice on the mobile phones of crores of people across the country. Many people panicked and some started asking on social media what was happening. But this was not a real threat. This was a nationwide test conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority i.e. NDMA to test the 'Cell Broadcast Alert System'.

What message did you get on the phone?

"Extremely Severe Alert" was written on the phone's screen along with a message that India had launched a cell broadcast service using indigenous technology, which would enable citizens to get immediate information about the disaster. The message clearly stated that this is a test message and there is no need for the public to take any action. The message was issued on behalf of the Government of India.

Where did this alert occur?

The test will be conducted in Delhi-NCR and the capitals of all states and Union Territories (times may vary in some places). Border areas and poll bound States were excluded from this test<>

Why was this test done?

The objective of the government was to test how effective this system is to convey the information needed immediately to the people in times of disaster. The test uses indigenous technology which has been developed by India itself. Fire and Disaster Management Departments of several states, including Telangana, also issued press notes to make people aware in advance

Don't be afraid, everything is normal

If you have this alert on your phone, it's perfectly normal. This was just to check the system, not a real crisis. NDMA appealed to the people to maintain calm and inform family and friends about this in advance so that no one panicks.
