Nora Fatehi testifies after court verdict: Claims to have spoken only on call with thug Sukesh; Actress is a witness in a Rs 200 crore extortion case

Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi appeared in Delhi's Rouse Avenue court on Friday. She recorded her statement as a prosecution witness in the Rs 200 crore extortion case involving alleged thug Sukesh Chandrasekhar. In the court, Nora informed about her visit to India, her work and meeting Sukesh's wife Leena Poloz in Chennai. Sukesh's wife had organised a charity event in Chennai The case was heard in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Gagandeep Singh. Nora said that she is a citizen of Canada and originally belongs to Morocco. She came to India on a work visa issued to work with T-Series Music Company. Nora said that in December 2020, she was booked for a charity event in Chennai. The organiser of the event was Leena Paulos (wife of Sukesh Chandrasekhar). Nora was booked for the event through an agency called Axed Entertainment. She was supposed to be present as the chief guest at the event and play the role of a judge in the dance competition. The next hearing of the case will be on November 30. The management company made the booking, the payment was also made to the company. According to Nora, being a foreign national, her booking for any event in India was done by the management company and the payment was also made to the company. Nora said that when she was getting ready for the event in Chennai, her team told her that Leena Poloz wanted to meet her with her family. Leena then reached Nora's room with her family members, two videographers and a few others. She also had some gifts with her. Nora told the court how she had a conversation with Sukesh. Nora told the court that during the meeting, Leena told her that her husband wanted to talk to her and wanted to thank her for coming to Chennai. Leena then called Sukesh and made Nora talk to Sukesh on the speaker. Sukesh thanked him over the phone and said that his family is a fan of Nora. He talked about doing many more programs together in the future. According to Nora, during the conversation over the phone, Leena talked about gifting her a car. After that, Sukesh, who was present on the phone, also asked her to accept the car as a gift. The court had slammed Nora for not appearing on November 2. In this case, the court had called Nora twice earlier to testify. However, earlier this month, her lawyer had sought exemption from appearing in the court in person. The court expressed displeasure over this. The court said, "This matter cannot be taken lightly. You should have appeared in the court as a witness. Your behaviour is not right. Don't take the court lightly." Nora's team clarifies, says she is not an accused, but a witness On November 2, when Nora did not appear in court, several news websites called her an accused. Meanwhile, her team clarified that she is not an accused, but a witness. The team wrote, "On November 2, there was a hearing in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) case involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar in Delhi's Rouse Avenue court. Nora Fatehi was called as a witness. Her lawyers told the court that she had received the summons a very short time ago. She could not appear in court due to pre-determined work." It is alleged that he collected about Rs 200 crore from Aditi Singh, wife of former Ranbaxy promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh, by sometimes claiming to be a senior official of the Prime Minister's Office and sometimes of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Shivinder Mohan Singh and his brother Malvinder Singh have been promoters of Ranbaxy. Both were embroiled in legal troubles in financial irregularities cases and Shivinder was lodged in jail. It is alleged that Sukesh convinced his wife Aditi that he could get her husband out of jail. For this, he used to call from inside the jail and introduce himself as a government official. According to the investigating agencies, he hid his real identity through call spoofing technique and contacted Aditi by showing the government number. Between 2020 and 2021, he collected around Rs 200 crore in different instalments. In August 2021, Aditi Singh filed a complaint with the Delhi Police. After this, the Economic Offences Branch (EOW) of Delhi Police started an investigation. The police took action and arrested Sukesh after allegedly demanding a fresh demand of Rs one crore. The investigation revealed the network of extortion from the jail. The police filed a chargesheet under the MCOCA. The role of Sukesh's wife Leena Maria Paul and others in the case was also investigated. How did Nora Fatehi's name get associated with Sukesh? Nora Fatehi's name also came up during the investigation. According to reports, Sukesh gave her luxury cars and gifts. The Delhi Police questioned Sukesh and his wife Leena Maria Paul about their contacts. During an interrogation, Nora and Sukesh were seated together. Nora told the police that her meeting and conversation with Sukesh was not directly but through his wife Leena. Later, the Delhi Police filed a third supplementary chargesheet, in which Nora was made a prosecution witness. In the chargesheet, her name is recorded as LW-3 i.e. the third witness.
