PM Modi mentions Shah Rukh Khan's film: 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' explains India-Indonesia relations; Karan Johar expresses happiness
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Indonesia on the first leg of his three-nation tour. Addressing the Indian community in Jakarta, PM Modi used the name of the Bollywood film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' to describe the relationship between India and Indonesia. He said that when the two countries walk together, there is no 'Kuch Kuch' but 'Bahut Kuch'. The film's director Karan Johar took to social media to express happiness over the PM's statement and called it an honour for him. Addressing the Indian diaspora in Jakarta, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the cultural ties between India and Indonesia. He said that India's song 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' is very popular in Indonesia. Giving an example of this, PM Modi said that when India and Indonesia walk together, it goes beyond 'Kuch Kuch' and becomes 'Bahut Kuch'. After PM Modi's statement, the people present there welcomed him with applause. After the video of PM Modi's speech went viral on social media, the film's director Karan Johar reacted to it. Karan Johar shared a clip of this speech on his Instagram account. "I am very happy and honoured to see our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi talking about 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' in Jakarta. Karan further wrote that love is a language that transcends all boundaries. He thanked the Prime Minister for keeping the song alive forever. Karan Johar's debut with 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' is a very special film of Karan Johar's career. Karan Johar made his Bollywood debut as a director with the 1998 film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles, while Salman Khan played a cameo role in the film. The film and its songs are still popular in India as well as in many Asian countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Indonesia on Monday, July 6, 2026. He was received by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on his arrival in Jakarta. PM Modi was given a grand welcome at the airport, after which he joined his scheduled programs. During the visit, a number of bilateral issues were discussed and emphasis was laid on strengthening the relationship between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to three countries is the first part of his three-nation tour. After Indonesia, they will go to the city of Melbourne in Australia. After that, the last stop of their tour will be New Zealand. The visit to the three countries is aimed at strengthening India's ties with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region. During the visit, discussions are being held on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, defence, technology, investment and critical minerals.
