The Human Rights Federation (Human Rights Federation Inc.) has expressed serious concern over allegations of misconduct and the use of force against social activist and Aam Aadmi Party leader Ankita Ben Gor during an operation carried out against the houses of poor and economically vulnerable families in the Lotus Colony area of Bhuj.
According to the organization, it has taken official cognizance of the incident and submitted a formal representation via email to the Director General of Police (DGP), Gujarat State, and the Superintendent of Police (SP), Kutch District. In its representation, the Federation stated that if any public official, while discharging official duties, has violated the limits of law, human dignity, or the principles of natural justice, an impartial and transparent investigation is essential.
The organization emphasized that in a democratic system, the rule of law, protection of human rights, accountability, transparency, and adherence to the principles of natural justice are paramount. It further stated that impartial investigation of any allegations involving citizens—particularly women and social activists—is necessary to maintain public confidence in institutions.
Key Demands of the Federation
-
A high-level, independent, and impartial investigation into the entire incident should be conducted.
-
Appropriate administrative action should be taken regarding the role of the concerned official during the course of the investigation.
-
The investigation should be completed in a transparent manner, keeping in view public interest and applicable legal provisions.
-
If any misconduct, irregularity, or abuse of authority is established during the investigation, appropriate departmental and legal action should be initiated in accordance with the relevant rules and laws.
The Human Rights Federation stated that every public official entrusted with authority should perform their duties with sensitivity, respect for human dignity, and adherence to constitutional values. While maintaining law and order is important, safeguarding the fundamental rights and human dignity of citizens is equally important.
The organization expressed hope that the concerned authorities will take prompt, impartial, and just action in the matter so as to strengthen public confidence and uphold the fundamental principles of justice.
