Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) have launched a special cleanliness drive in the Sabarmati river basin from June 2 to June 5 to keep the Sabarmati riverfront area clean, safe and environmentally friendly. The cleanliness drive was carried out in the river bed near Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram at 8 am in the presence of Minister Hrishikesh Patel. State ministers Hrishikesh Patel, Darshanaben Vaghela, MLAs and newly-appointed corporators and key office bearers, including the mayor, were seen descending on the river only for a photo session. Of the newly appointed corporators of the BJP, 50 per cent did not land on the Sabarmati river bed. The programme was completed in 30 minutes.
A cleanliness drive was launched in the Sabarmati River. State Cabinet Minister Rishikesh Patel reached the Sabarmati river at 8 am, where he cleaned the Sabarmati river for 20 minutes and conducted a photo session. BJP MLAs also held photo sessions with corporators in their constituencies. Later, instead of the newly appointed corporators doing shramdaan in the cleanliness drive and actually giving the message of cleanliness, they left along with minister Hrishikesh Patel. After completing the programme in 30 minutes, the office bearers, MLAs and corporators, including the mayor, left the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram. Mayor Hitesh Barot, MLAs, corporators, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchanidhi Pani, officials, NCC, police and various organizations joined the Sabarmati river cleaning drive. A campaign was launched to clean the Sabarmati river. The river bed was full of water just ahead of where the cleanup was to be done. Ministers Hrishikesh Patel, Darshanaben Vaghela, BJP MLAs, Mayor Hitesh Barot, Deputy Anjuben Shah, Dandak Atul Mishra and other office bearers removed the grass from the riverbed. The Sabarmati river was actually supposed to remove plastic waste and other bad things. However, the grass that had grown was removed. Special cleanliness drive in the run up to World Environment Day
The river has been emptied as the gates of Vasna barrage are to be repaired. A special cleanliness drive will be undertaken from 2nd June to 05th June i.e. World Environment Day to remove garbage, plastics, wild vegetation and other obstacles in the river bed and to maintain cleanliness on both the banks of the river.
