Smartphones, TVs and laptops can be cheaper, the government has taken this big step
Smartphone And Laptop Could Become Cheaper: Consumers struggling with high prices of smartphones, smart TVs and laptops can get big relief in the coming days. Taking a big step, the central government has abolished the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on the materials used in making smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, fitness bands and smart TVs. This will make it cheaper for companies to make smartphones and other devices and customers can also benefit from this. Therefore, it is expected that the prices of devices like smartphones and laptops may come down in the next few days.
Exemption will continue till March, 2029
The government has abolished the basic duty to boost domestic production. Now the materials used in making display assembly, lithium-ion cells and inductor coil modules will become cheaper. This exemption will continue till March 31, 2029. Through this, the government wants to increase the production of electronics goods in the country and reduce the cost of companies. As of now, India is largely dependent on China and Vietnam for display assembly and lithium-ion cells. The government has taken this decision to end this dependence. This will increase domestic production and reduce dependence on foreign countries.
smartphones, laptops, smart TVs and other devices can be cheap
phones and laptops are becoming increasingly expensive.
The AI boom has led to storage and lack of memory chips. Due to lack of supply and high demand on the other hand, their prices are skyrocketing. Due to this, the cost of companies making smartphones and laptops etc. has increased and this is affecting their prices. This is the reason why companies like Apple, Samsung, Lenovo to Dell are increasing the prices of their smartphones, laptops and smart TVs. Now, after the decision of the Government of India, there is hope that at least the devices made in India will be cheaper.
