A very serious case of fraud on social media by misusing the reputation and identity of Govindbhai Dholakia, a well-known businessman from Surat and Rajya Sabha MP, came to light. The fraudsters created a fake profile of Rajya Sabha MP Govindbhai Dholakia on social media and created a 'deepfake' video using old photographs and videos of the MP. In this video, by saying "I am Govindbhai Dholakia", unidentified gangsters were making a misleading announcement to buy old currency coins on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India at a high price. On the pretext of buying coins, an attempt was made to extort money by transferring ₹1,500 from customers through online UPI as processing fee or charges.
