The police have finally got a major breakthrough in the case of the abduction of a 17-year-old girl from the Patidar community living in Sarthana area of Surat after 38 days. A 26-year-old married man and father of two children, Arvind Panchasara, has been arrested by the police for allegedly luring a minor girl into a love trap. There was a lot of anger in the Patidar community against the police action in this case, but as the investigation gained momentum, the accused was finally put behind bars. He used to travel in a bus after leaving his Bolero car at Amreli to evade police arrest. He used to roam around with the minor in districts like Amreli, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar and Botad. He preferred to live in farm and orchard areas to mislead the police. During the journey and stay, the accused Arvind used to falsely identify the 17-year-old minor as his wife so that no one would suspect it. The lack of a daughter and the laxity of the police led to a lot of anger among the leaders and family members of the Patidar community. In the past few days, community leaders had gheraoed the Sarthana police station. In view of the seriousness of the incident, the Surat police commissioner strongly reprimanded the Sarthana police inspector and handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch with immediate effect.
