The road accident situation in Surendranagar district has reached alarming levels. According to the latest data, a total of 1013 people have died in accidents in the last five years. In 2024-25 alone, 213 people lost their lives. The most shocking thing is that the biggest reason for this death is over-speeding and wrong side driving. Hundreds of lives can be saved if motorists control the speed and follow the rules. The Road Safety Month celebrations have started in Surendranagar district. Motorists are given various guidance to prevent accidents. Accidents are frequent on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot national highway passing through Surendranagar district. Apart from this, accidents also take place on Surendranagar-Viramgam highway and Surendranagar-Rajkot highway. In 2025, there were 386 accidents. In which 213 people have been killed. In the last 5 years, shocking details have come out that 1013 people have died in 1893 incidents. Here are the main reasons for accidents:
Crossing the road without paying attention to the intersections and curves. , Considering the road-traffic situation; Driving without taking. Stopping the vehicle abruptly without being careful. Driving thoughtfully. Driving without maintaining a safe distance between two vehicles. Turn the vehicle to the left and right. Ignoring zebra crossings. Drunk driving. Opening the car door without looking at the vehicle coming from behind, talking on the mobile phone while driving. Driving without wearing glasses despite having a remote number. Illness, insufficient sleep and driving despite mental stress, driving at high speed despite wet roads. , Driving despite worn tires and faulty brakes. The number of accidents has come down this year as compared to last year due to speeding of vehicles irrespective of speed limit
Compared to the accidents in the two years, Surendranagar district witnessed 407 accident incidents in the year 2023-24. While the number of accident incidents has increased to 386 in the year 2023-24. Thus, the number of accident incidents in the district has decreased by 21 in a year.
