Woman accused of mixing cow dung powder in school meals in Tamil Nadu; Wanted to avenge his wife's dismissal

In Tamil Nadu's Erode district, a case of mixing cow dung powder in the meals of a government school has come to light. The police have arrested 48-year-old Arumugam. He is the husband of a school cook. He wanted to take revenge for his wife's dismissal. The case pertains to the government middle school in Ramapayallur near Sathyamangalam, where 51 children are studying. Investigations revealed that the powder was mixed only in sambar kept aside for teachers and not in the meals served to children. The matter came to light when the teacher found the taste bitter. On August 31, Revathi, a teacher at the school, tasted the sambar prepared under the breakfast scheme. She found it bitter. He informed the headmistress Kumudha about it. The headmistress then lodged a complaint with the police on the advice of the Sathyamangalam block development officer. During the investigation, the officials found that the cow dung powder was found only in the sambar samples kept for teachers. It was not mixed in the sambar being served to the students. The student was given Rs 10 to buy cow dung powder. According to the police, the accused Arumugam paid Rs 10 to a student and asked her to buy cow dung powder from a nearby shop and mix it with sambar. The student bought breakfast for Rs 5 and took cow dung powder from the remaining Rs 5. He then mixed it in the sambar kept aside for the teacher. Wife removed from job as cook Arumugam's wife Alammal was earlier working as a cook in the same school, police said. She was removed following complaints about the quality of cooking and was replaced by someone else for cooking. According to the police, Arumugam was upset over this. It is alleged that he took this step out of anger over hiring someone else for cooking. The Sathyamangalam police arrested Arumugam on Thursday night.
